The JMS Mega-TREATMENT (Water Treatment Systems) family represents an efficient and complete water treatment solution to outfit your entire sedimentation basin. JMS has you covered from flocculation, sedimentation, and sludge removal. JMS has used their 50 years of experience to design each component for optimum performance to help out with any surface water treatment use.
JMS Mega-TREATMENT (Water Treatment Systems) that are used for surface water treatment:
- Mega-FLOCS (Paddle Wheel Flocculators)
- Mega-SETTLER (Plate Settler System)
- Mega-VAC (Hoseless Sludge Removal System)
- Mega-SCRAPER (Sludge Removal System)
- Mega-TROUGH (Trough System)
- Mega-WALL (Baffle System)
Flocculation for Surface Water Treatment
For over 50 years JMS has been designing and developing flocculators. These include the horizontal, vertical, and walking beam paddle style flocculator. JMS has concentrated on paddle wheel flocculators as it has proven to be the superior technology. Paddle Wheel Flocculators have traditionally been used in the municipal Water Treating process, primarily because their slow speed, low shear mixing method is well suited to the flocculation process in a Water Treatment basin. JMS can help with the most common styles of flocculator basins including; serpentine, over and under, and ported with the use of the JMS Mega-WALL (Baffle System).
Flocculation is an important part of the Water Treatment process. “Flocculate is a verb meaning to form flocculant masses, as a cloud or a chemical precipitate; form aggregated or compound masses of particles.” Why would I want to flocculate? The 1000’ view reasoning in the municipal water industry is to begin the process of separating dirty particles from water to create clean drinking water. Large size particles known as flocs have a higher density, and hence a higher settling rate. Both Impeller Style, and Paddle Wheel Style Flocculators can be used in a Water Treatment settlement basin. Each type of mixer has its positive and negatives, and the engineer must weigh the needs of the process along with the positives and negatives of each type of mixer in making his/her choice for the plant design. Sedimentation for Surface Water Treatment
Treatment plants are asked to do more and the need for maximizing what’s available has never been more evident, this even includes sedimentation basins. At JMS, we design our Mega-SETTLER (Plate Settler System) to best suit any basin geometry and sludge collection system. This approach can dramatically reduce the footprint of a conventional sedimentation basin, often by as much as 50 to 90%. It can also significantly increase the treatment capacity of existing basins while improving effluent quality.
Two types of lamella sedimentation equipment are currently available commercially, Tube Settlers, and Plate Settlers. Both types of equipment use shallow sedimentation theory to achieve the desired results. Use of Tube Settlers, or Plate Settlers can allow for greater loading rates of the system by expanding the surface area for sedimentation. This allows for greater loading rates, and results in a large reduction in the basin size needed to achieve the same results. It is generally accepted a reduction in settling surface area of 80+ percent can be achieved. Both Tube Settlers and Plate Settlers come with their own set of positives and negatives. Sludge Removal for Surface Water Treatment
Efficient removal of sludge from the bottom of sedimentation basins in water and wastewater treatment applications has long been an issue. Failure to address sludge removal can reduce the effective volume of the tank as well as the efficiency of the sedimentation process. Former sludge removal systems provided a solution to the problem, but came with issues related to handling of the sludge. JMS offers two different styles of sludge removal a hoseless sludge removal system with the Mega-VAC and a reciprocating scraper style sludge removal with the Mega-SCRAPER.
