Job Summary

The Materials Manager position is a vital member of the JMS manufacturing team and is responsible for the management and support related to purchasing, inventory, WIP, and Logistics processes to ensure On Time Delivery in a safe manner in alignment with JMS quality standards. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure safety policies are established and adhered to
  • Ensure our Culture of Quality is improving and supported
  • Participate in daily Production Meetings
  • Ensure all Logistics scheduling commitments are met or addressed/rescheduled well in advance of ship date (the sooner the better but two weeks out at the latest)
  • Provide direction and priorities to the Logistics Supervisor as needed to support Production Schedule
  • Require and enforce accountability for productivity, safety, and quality
  • Work with Supervisors and Human Resources to monitor and address manpower needs proactively
  • Work with Supervisors, Manufacturing Engineering, and Management to support and procure equipment and upgrades as needed
  • Interdepartmental initiatives to continually improve our processes and business model
  • Monitor production and subcontractors for bottlenecks and work with the appropriate parties to address and/or eliminate them in a proactive manner in areas of responsibility
    • Manage Logistics
  • Proactive scheduling of trucks
  • Proactive packaging and organization of projects
  • Oversee maintenance of storage lot and adjacent JMS property
  • Oversee and arrange maintenance of JMS trucks and trailer
  • Establish documented best practices of packaging and loading procedures by product group
  • Ensure accurate and timely receipt of incoming goods
  • Creating and sustaining consistent material flow processes
  • Manage and minimize freight costs
  • Oversee freight claims and returns
  • Planning
  • Ensure productivity of Planners
  • ERP superuser
  • Provide guidance on best practices, and the documentation/structure thereof
  • Part setup (make/buy, min lot size, Days of Supply, etc.)
  • Inventory controls
  • Ownership of MRP
  • Ownership of Order and Job date management
  • Provide assistance to other groups with supply/demand conflicts/issues
  • Material Handling

  • Optimal staging for downstream processes
  • Troubleshooting transactional errors

  • Ensure orders are being placed in timely manner
  • Ensure Epicor dates and data are accurate
  • Assist with BOM errors and cleanup
  • Work with vendors on scheduling requirements and pricing
  • Sourcing new vendors, international and domestic
  • Manage existing vendors regarding pricing, lead times, on time delivery, and quality
      • Analyzing and researching data to validate vendor pricing
      • Negotiating contracts with vendors
  • Follow all JMS, Inc. policies and procedures

 

Required Qualifications

    • Passion for establishing and improving a culture of quality and safety
    • Engineer to Order experience in most if not all areas of responsibility (3 years + in manufacturing preferred)
    • Forklift experience/certification in transportation of large equipment (desired)
    • ERP knowledge (Epicor preferred)
    • High sense of urgency and attention to details
    • 5+ years of Purchasing Experience
    • Strong knowledge of steel industry and supply chain, especially stainless sheet, plate, and tubing
    • Ability to perform manual take-offs through use of drawings/prints
  • Demonstrated appreciation of structure, documentation, SOP’s, and visual management aids
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to negotiate positive outcomes 
    • Requires a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook 
  • Ability to work effectively & efficiently with team members on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as logical thought process
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to negotiate positive outcomes

 

Education

  • High School Diploma/GED or Associates required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Engineering, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management a plus, or equivalent work experience
