    Our History

    1962: James (Jim) B. Myers Jr. Founds JMS

    Equipped with a vision, and studying engineering at Virginia Tech in one of the first GI Bill classes after World War II, James B. Myers Jr., known as Jim, starts designing and selling steel components from his home to serve the needs of the municipal water and wastewater treatment industries in the Carolinas.

    1964: Jim Myers III Joins JMS

    Jim Myers III joins his father in the business, but soon leaves Charlotte to attend NC State University. After receiving an engineering degree, Jim joined the US Army serving as a nuclear weapons officer attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

    1966: Jim Myers & Sons, Inc. Becomes Incorporated

    Jim Myers & Sons is incorporated in the state of North Carolina and moves to their first sales and engineering facility on Templeton Avenue.

    1970: Dave Myers Joins JMS

    The next move to a larger location on Crump Road gives adequate space to help expand sales and engineering to keep up with rising demand. Young Dave Myers joins the team as part-time labor.

    1975: JMS Moves to Larger Facility (Hebron St)

    A move to Hebron Street expands working area to 10,000 ft2 for the seven member team allowing for the start of in-house manufacturing. Jim Myers & Sons, Inc. sells their first flocculator to Pulaski, VA, and first screw conveyor in Fayetteville, NC. The sale of their first belt conveyor followed soon after in 1976 for an application in Radford, VA.

    1976: JMS Expands Line of Products

    JMS expands internal sales, engineering and manufacturing capabilities and also represents US Filter, Perrin, and Tenco-Hydro equipment.

    1982: JMS First International Sale

    JMS first international sale of Belt Conveyor in Cairo, Egypt.

    1988: JMS Expands Facility (Hebron St)

    Additional manufacturing and engineering space is added for a total amount of 35,000 ft2 as the company grows to thirteen employees. Land is purchased for future expansion. JMS establishes themselves in the industry with attendance at AWWA and WEFTEC functions.

    1988: Jim Myers III Becomes President of JMS

    Jim Myers III takes the reins as President of the company, and guides it through a period of significant growth.

    1995: Jim Myers Jr. Passes Away

    Sadly, Jim Myers Jr. passes away leaving his sons to manage the business. JMS achieves complete national coverage with a network of independently owned Manufacturer’s Representatives. Coverage of the Caribbean follows by 2005.

    1997: JMS First Asian Sale

    JMS achieves first Asian sales with a clarifier sold to Quaker Oats in China.

    2003: JMS First European Sale

    First European project with a Flocculator sold to Greece.

    2007: Dave Myers Becomes President of JMS

    After joining JMS full time in 1980, Dave Myers accepts the role of President of JMS from his brother Jim. Jim stays active in the business until his retirement in 2015.

    2008: JMS Moves to Larger Facility (Nations Ford Rd.)

    To accommodate business growth, a larger 42,000 ft2 building on Nations Ford Road, where an additional 1000 ft2 of office space is soon added.

    2008: JMS Adds Plate Settlers to Product Line

    JMS purchases the Zimpro Inclined Plate Settlers business and installs their first system a year later in Oak Creek, WI. To further expand the product line, the Low Profile Cascade Aerator business is purchased from Smallberry Manufacturing.

    2009: JMS Issued Patent TFCA

    JMS patent issued for Plate Settler Top Flow Control Angle.

    2012: JMS celebrates their 50th anniversary

    JMS patent issued for Plate Settler Top Flow Control Angle.

    2013: JMS Patent Eco-AIR

    JMS Eco-AIR (Low Profile Cascade Aerator) has patent pending status.

    2013: JMS Largest Project to Date

    JMS sells their largest project to date at Boston, MA, Deer Island WWTP.

    2014: Largest JMS Flocculator Project

    The largest Flocculator project sold to date in Dallas, TX at Eastside WTP.

    2015: JMS Has Developed into a Significant Industry Supplier

    Everyday over Five Billion Gallons of water flow through JMS equipment all across North America. To accommodate the 48 employees and future growth, the facility moves to a new 72,000 ft2 building at 5120 Westinghouse Boulevard.

    2016: JMS is Going Strong

    This year is marked by the introduction of JMS product branding and new sludge removal equipment. JMS continues to prosper under Dave Myers leadership.

    2017: Sam Myers Joins JMS

    Sam Myers joins JMS as the 3rd generation of Myers. Sam is a graduate of the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina with a BS in Business Administration concentrating in Finance and Management. Since his graduation, he has been working for the past three years as a Brokerage Associate at Colliers International South Carolina, where was successful in Business Development, Industrial Services.

    2019: Largest Plate Settler Project in the World

    JMS receives purchase order for the largest plate settler system in the world. The Houston, TX Northeast WTP expansion project increases water capacity from 80 million gallons per day (MGD) to 400 MGD When complete, JMS will have used over 4,000,000 lbs. of stainless steel to build over 50,000 individual settling plates.

    2020: State of the Art Plate Settler Production Line

    JMS launches a new State of the Art Plate Settler Production Line.

    2021: Relaunch of JMS Core Products

    JMS restructures to focus on core products, Bio-HANDLING and Mega-TREATMENT.

    2023: Sam Myers named president of JMS

    Sam Myers is named President of JMS making him the third generation to lead the company.
