Job Summary

The Purchasing Manager is a key member and leader of our Purchasing team. The Manager will work to develop and support purchasing initiatives and activities, including but not limited to purchase order system and department management, estimating support, vendor PO T&C compliance and negotiations, vendor and vendor order management, project management and manufacturing purchasing support to achieve project and product schedules, and collaborate with accounting/finance to ensure cash needs are achieved.

 

Responsibilities include

  • Develop and own the JMS procurement strategy and Purchasing Lifecycle Management (PLM) process and standards
  • Collaborate with various team members to develop purchasing lifecycle procedures including change management, record keeping, and auditing
  • Create common language, core templates, unified terms, and repeatable, consistent conditions for purchasing
  • Oversee all vendor purchase orders from pre-PO support through completion
  • Consult with various team leaders on purchase order contractual related topics
  • Serve as the liaison for contract negotiations with vendors
  • Support in the evaluation and estimating of new project opportunities
  • Request, author, negotiate, approve, and sign vendor purchase orders (through responsibility thresholds)
  • Identify and evaluate current products and methods of sourcing to ensure efficiencies and profitability
  • Identify and evaluate common conventional sourcing practices within the trade and develop unconventional methods for the company to ensure a competitive advantage
  • Interview and interact with prospective third-party vendors to identify offered products and pricing
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal customers and strategic suppliers
  • Maintain vendor and product files, price lists and correspondence related to their product lines
  • Acquire quotes, pricing, product information, data sheets, sourcing and samples on both new and existing products
  • Carry out necessary follow-up and expediting activities to ensure delivery as required
  • Place orders based on Material Requirement Planning, reorder reports, customer orders, special orders, stock/export demand, etc.
  • Recommend purchases based upon factors of quantity, price, quality, delivery requirements, and shipping points.
  • Enter purchase orders into the accounting/operating system and submit to vendors accordingly
  • Examine and approve all invoice variances for orders placed
  • Prepare internal reports and other projects as necessary or required by supervisor
  • Support in the development of material take-offs to optimize production purchases
  • Work with all departments to support in the purchasing of non-project related needs (tooling, office supplies, etc.)

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Law, Supply Chain or related field or equivalent years of work experience
  • 5+ years of purchasing experience
  • Proven ability to collaborate, draw-out information, and work effectively across multiple departments and teams
  • High-level of proficiency in Microsoft Desktop Applications
  • Effective at prioritization and being a self-starter working independently in a challenging, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent negotiation and organization skillset
  • Ability to willing to travel to company warehouses, laydown yards, projects, and vendor locations
  • Ability to determine solutions for company and customers through an unconventional sourcing approach
  • Experience with global supply chain management
  • Engineer to Order experience in Purchasing
  • ERP knowledge (Epicor preferred)

 

Desired Experience and Skills

  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment in the water and wastewater industry
  • Experience at a small to mid-size Engineering firm, Construction firm, or Manufacturing facility
  • Experience with supply chain strategy and supplier contract management
  • Experience in material take-offs
